FAQ & Salon Policies

  • What if I need to cancel?

    Call/Text (603) 524-0995 or email grooming@domesticdogtrain.com

Please provide a minimum of 24-hour cancellation/rescheduling notice. We do understand that “life happens” and all fees will be at groomers discretion to the circumstances. Failure to communicate a cancellation will result in your appointment being marked a no-show.

No-shows to appointments will not be tolerated. You will be required to put down a deposit equal to the cost of the appointment in order to book after the first no show. In order to rebook with us all fees must be paid in full.

  • What if I'm late?

    Call/Text (603) 524-0995 or email grooming@domesticdogtrain.com

Late arrival is considered more than 15 minutes after your scheduled appointment time.  We make it a priority to best serve all our clients.  Putting the groomer behind affects all consequent appointments for the day. Late arrivals are up to the groomer's discretion on whether or not you will still be serviced that day. If you are more than 30 minutes late to an appointment, the appointment will be canceled, and there will be a $25 charge added to your next appointment.

  • What vaccines are required?

Up-to-date Rabies Vaccines are required for all services per NH state law, unless vet exempt.

Boarding and Daycare services require up-to-date bordetella and distemper vaccines, unless vet exempt.

You may email vaccine records or exemption letters to grooming@domesticdogtrain.com or boarding@domesticdogtrain.com at any time.

  • Will my pets be crated during the groom?

Dogs may be crated for safety if the groomer needs to leave the room, they cannot tolerate the kennel dryer, you have multiple dogs booked at the same time, or owner does not pick-up prior to the next scheduled appointment time.

Crating is not a punishment, and is used as a tool to keep your dog, and other dogs in the salon safe. When used correctly, the crate can become a positive, secure space for your dog.

For dogs that might be anxious after grooming or with new smells, crating for a short time can help them feel more secure. It also encourages them to settle down after the excitement of a grooming session.

  • Can I stay to watch the groom?

We do not allow pet parents to stay for grooming services. Some dogs can become more anxious or excited if their owner is present. They may feel the need to seek reassurance or attention, which can make it harder for them to stay still and relaxed during the grooming process. By not having you there, your dog may be more likely to focus on the groomer and remain calm throughout the session.

  • What if my dog has seperation anxiety?

For those with seperation anxiety - we highly recommend keeping drop-off and pick-up routine short, neutral, and calm. We work very hard to create positive relationships with your dogs, and have been professionally trained to help your pets work through stress and anxiety.

One thing we often see is that when we unintentionally reinforce a dog’s anxiety, it can make the problem worse. For example, if you notice your dog becoming anxious when you're about to leave and then comfort them a lot before leaving, the dog might start to associate that anxiety with your departure. Dogs can sometimes see this reassurance as a sign that something is wrong, which can make their anxiety stronger.

  • What if my dog is reactive?

Please communicate to a staff member when booking if you are concerned about your dogs behavior for any of the services being provided. Our team members are well equipped to handle dogs with all sorts of behaviors, and we are to help. If there are accomodations we can make for you to make scheduling services easier, we are happy to work with you.

  • Can I bring my pet in with fleas?

We have a strict 'no flea' policy in place for all of our grooming services to ensure the health and safety of every dog we work with. Fleas are not only a nuisance, but they can also be harmful to both your dog and others at the facility.

Should your dog come into the facility with fleas, they will be quarentined until you are able to pick them up. You will be charged the entire cost of the appointment, and a $100 fee to help with any loss of revenue due to delays, added cleaning time, and disruption to our schedule.

We understand that fleas can sometimes be hard to notice, but we ask that you check your dog for signs of fleas before coming in for grooming. If your dog has been exposed to fleas recently, we recommend treating them prior to their appointment.

We’re Here to Help! If you’re unsure whether your dog may have fleas, please feel free to ask us for guidance or recommendations on flea prevention treatments. We want to ensure that your dog has the best experience possible.

  • What if my dog has ticks?

As New Hampshire natives, we are very familiar with the influx of ticks during certain seasons and understand that they can be unnavoidable. If your dog is discovered to have an infestation of ticks, we will inform you immediately. We may charge an additional fee for tick removal and extra time spent on sanitizing the grooming area.

  • What if my dog was skunked?

    DO NOT WET YOUR DOG!

Skunk Oil penetrates the hair follicle, and wetting your dogs coat will seal the oil into the hair follicles, leaving a long-lasting odor.

Mix the solution: Combine 1 quart of hydrogen peroxide (3%) with ¼ cup of baking soda and 1–2 teaspoons of dish soap. Stir until everything is well mixed. Apply to the affected and let sit for 10-15 minutes before rinsing.

If you have already bathed your dog, we will be unable to fully remove the odor from your pets coat. We can offer a deoderizing bath, but there is no guarentee that the odor will be gone, and your pet will still smell of skunk anytime the coat is wet for several weeks to several months

  • How often should I groom my dog?

The frequency of grooming depends on your dog’s breed, coat type, and lifestyle. Here are some general guidelines:

    • Short-haired breeds (e.g., Beagle, Boxer): Typically every 4-6 weeks.
    • Long-haired breeds (e.g., Shih Tzu, Poodle): Usually every 4-8 weeks, but more frequent brushing is often needed between grooming sessions.
    • Double-coated breeds (e.g., Golden Retriever, Husky): Every 6-8 weeks or as needed to manage shedding and matting.
    • Curly or non-shedding breeds (e.g., Poodle, Bichon Frise): Every 4-6 weeks to prevent mats and tangles.
